What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a modality that mimics the lymphatic system pumping just underneath your skin. As a gentle and rhythmic modality, MLD is effective for moving “stuck” or slow moving lymph back to the heart and out through the kidneys. Its gentle nature is also extremely beneficial in calming the nervous system and can help regulate mood and chronic pain disorders, along with many other conditions.

Conditions that would benefit from MLD most:

  • lymphedema

  • general edema (swelling) caused by pregnancy, surgery, or summer heat

  • lipedema

  • autoimmune disorders such as fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, or scleroderma

  • mood disorders, such as anxiety and depression

  • migraines and sinus headaches

The lymphatic system runs parallel in importance to our cardiovascular system. Mistakenly only thought to be our body’s sewer system, the lymphatic system is also in charge of fluid regulation and keeping our bodies in homeostasis. How cool!

“It’s when we work together that the real healing takes place.”
